The quality of the nutrients is super poor,” we were told. Two-thirds of what we eat comes from nine crops. “Something that damages biodiversity is the way we eat. People understand what better food for them is better for nature.”Įcotone also believes its products themselves can be used as a tool to promote biodiversity. If you eat vegetable-based food instead of animal-based food, you stop contributing to deforestation… The loss of living species generated by pesticides in food and the fact that we have eaten too much animal-based food that contributes to deforestation are driving biodiversity loss. “Chemicals in food have the tendency to destroy nature. Barnouin believes the focus on plant-based and organic delivers a double win for human and planetary health. By 2030, it has set itself the goal of shifting turnover to 90% organic. "We started 30 years ago as a business of organic and vegetarian food, basically with the idea to grow natural food within Europe.”Įcotone’s business today is 80% organic and 95% vegetarian. The group, which has an annual turnover of €700m and operates production sites in seven countries, aims to offer an ‘alternative to mainstream food’ in order to ‘contribute to better nutrition through nature’, chief executive Christophe Barnouin explained. In 2020, when it changed its name from Wessanen to Ecotone, the company decided to define its purpose in terms of the contribution it can make to biodiversity protection. According to WWF’s Living Planet Report, in Europe only 23% of species and 16% of its habitats are in ‘good health’, while 1,677 out of 15,060 European species are threatened with extinction.Įcotone believes that this is ‘largely caused by the current industrial agricultural and food systems’ degrading the environment and its soil. The biodiversity of our planet is under threat. Emulsifiers, stabilisers, hydrocolloids.Chocolate and confectionery ingredients.Carbohydrates and fibres (sugar, starches).Exercise produces endorphins, which are chemicals in the brain that act as natural painkillers, improve sleep, and reduce stress. The high temps in hot yoga help open your pores and rejuvenate your skin. Hot yoga is especially helpful for people with Type 2 Diabetes. Any form of exercise burns energy and reduces sugar levels, and research shows that hot yoga is particularly helpful in bringing down sugar levels. Since your body works harder under high temperatures, you burn calories more quicklyduring hot yoga compared to regular yoga. Practicing different yoga poses in high heat gives your heart, lungs, and muscles a more challenging workout in comparison to regular yoga. The heat allows you to get a better stretch and achieve a greater range of motion. Hot muscles stretch better than cold muscles. And then being able to also form new relationships and create community – what can be better than that? And this is why apprenticeship programs are so important – you never know what part of your current life it may strengthen and you also don’t know what what new aspects to your life might be brought in. And in addition to that I am working on a new script and a major part of it has to do with carpentry. So much so, that I even want to start building wooden dollhouses and possibly selling them on Etsy. But Craig and his team were so patient and helpful that I now feel way more secure (than I ever have) when it comes to working with wood and construction tools.

I’m a writer, so a lot of the work I do is often “in my head” and so working with my hands was something I was not used to nor very comfortable with. I learned to open myself up more to accepting help from others and to speak up when I did not fully understand something. I was one of the members of the program and it really strengthened me in areas I did not know I was lacking in.
